Salary: $47,004 - $66,706 with additional $1,714 granted annually for each advance degree. Salary will be adjusted for late-start.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Assist in the maintenance of the school health program.
● Assist in interpreting the school health program to families and the community.
● Promote and foster communication with health care professionals for the well-being of students.
● Assist in determining the extent of illness or injury of a student and the disposition of the ill or injured student.
● Evaluate medication dispensed and treatments administered during school hours and enforce District policy, general
and handicapped.
● Implement, monitor, maintain state mandated screening programs; assist in the referral and follow-up necessitated by
these programs.
● Interpret school health program to families and the community.
● Serve as health consultant to school personnel, pupils and parents through interpretation of health appraisals,
standards of growth and laws and regulations relating to the position of school nurse.
● Implement and interpret the state mandated immunization laws and programs; evaluate pupils’ immunizations; inform
parents of necessary changes.
● Assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases.
● Consult with teachers on the health education of specific pupils.
● Attend IEP team meetings as requested, and complete required IEP paperwork.
● Maintain and control required records in a neat and orderly fashion.
● Prepare and submit reports in a timely manner, including LEA Medi-Cal billing.
● Work cooperatively and effectively with students, parents, staff, personnel from other agencies, and the public.
● Train and monitor staff to provide appropriate health care procedures for students.
● Train and monitor staff in child abuse reporting requirements and prevention strategies.
● Responsible for all supplies and equipment assigned; responsible for inventory of all supplies and equipment.
● May be required to serve on committees or assist in programs closely related to health services or appropriate to it.
● Maintain professional competence through participating in in-service activities provided by the District.
● Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
● Perform other duties as assigned as related to health services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
● Knowledge of specialized medical procedures and techniques typical to students with disabilities.
● Knowledge of universal precautions and control of infectious diseases.
● Ability to drive a car.

QUALIFICATIONS:
● Possess or be eligible for a valid California School Nurse Services Credential Required
● Possess a valid California State Board Registered Nursing License Required
● Minimum three years nursing experience Required
● School nursing experience in a public school setting Preferred
● Audiometer Certificate is required as a condition of continued employment Required
● Knowledge of and ability to use technology Required
● Possess a valid driver’s license Required
● Bilingual: Spanish Preferred

DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
● Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, and walking. Position may
require sitting or standing for extended periods of time, for example when working at a desk, conference table, small
student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations.
● Vision sufficient to read printed materials and distinguish colors for: medical materials, student files and records, laws
and rules, and other printed materials.
● Hearing and speech sufficient to conduct normal in-person and telephone conversations.
● Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and to utilize medical equipment using both hands.
● Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and up to 50 pounds to waist height; to bend, stoop, climb
stairs, walk on uneven terrain, and to reach overhead.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The entry-level range on the 2016 – 2017 Certificated Salary Schedule is $47,004 – $66,706, with an additional amount of
$1,714 granted annually for each post Baccalaureate degree. The benefits include subsidized Medical/Prescription, Dental,
and Vision for employee and family, plus Life Insurance (for employee only). Salary will be adjusted for the late-start
assignment.
