Scientist I
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Scientist I, are to:
:
Design, develop and implement in:planta studies to identify the interaction of beneficial microbes on soil physico:chemical, biological properties in relation to plant growth, nutrition and yield;
:
Conduct lab and greenhouse experiments, including data collection, processing, provide summary about experimental results to project teams, highlighting important results and defining next step experiments;
:
Integrate computational and statistical methods in experimental design and data analysis;
:
Identify, assess and implement new methods and tools for elucidating soil and plant fertility, enzyme activities of microbial origin, plant traits indicative of plant:microbe interactions and provide general guidance to improve standard laboratory techniques;
:
Contribute to research projects, technologies, publications and intellectual property;
:
Take initiative in keeping current with literature in areas of assignment and in areas of professional interest;
:
Responsible for lab equipment specific to research expertise, including maintenance. Responsible for assigned lab areas;
:
Coordinate and cooperate on research activities with peers, supervisors, and subordinates and external service providers;
:
Communicate effectively by listening, documentation, and presentation and gathering relevant stakeholder feedback.

Required Qualifications:
:
PhD in Soil Science/ Agronomy or related fieldor Masters degree in
Soil Science/ Agronomy or related field with 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelors degree
in Soil Science/Agronomy with 5 years of relevant experience;
:
Demonstrated experience in green house/field research or screening as it relates to industrially important crops is required;
:
Understanding of plant growth, plant nutrition and previous work experience in measuring soil nutrition, biology and physical properties in response to organic amendments/plant growth promoting microorganisms;
:
Track record of publications in soil science/ soil fertility, proven expertise in soil science techniques;
:
Proficient computer skills in MS office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
:
Broad understanding of Agronomic Principles, Crop Production and Management;
:
Strong organizational and time:management skills, good oral and written communication skills are essential;
:
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as a member of multidisciplinary research team;
:
Ability to explore, connect with a and/or already established network of external scientific experts on relevant topics (academic experts, extension specialists and growers);
:
Prior experiences working in a team environment and ability to adapt to the atmosphere of a dynamic research organization;
:
Proven record of driving initiatives and improving processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
:
Experience with soil sampling, soil characterization in terms of soil biogeochemical properties in field or greenhouse settings;
:
Proficient computer skills including statistical programs, data management systems and other scientific programs as needed;
:
Ability to work well in a shared laboratory setting, able to communic
