Position Summary

General Responsibilities:
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; and fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

Cosumnes River College is seeking an Assistant Professor for the Health Information Technology (HIT) Program. The HIT Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The HIT Program is an online program and the instructional assignment will primarily be online, but may include some face-to-face teaching in the day, evening, or through hybrid courses. The faculty member will hold three to five on-campus office hours per week, and will complete five hours of college service per week.

Assignment Responsibilities
The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to:
● Teaching courses in all levels of Health Information Technology (HIT).
● Engaging with the industry advisory committee to ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of industry, accreditation, and the community.
● Supporting student success, student career employment, and job placements.
● Completing program review.
● Completing five (5) hours of college service per week.
● The faculty member will hold three out of five office hours per week on campus
● Attending technical training, workshops, and conferences, and applying the knowledge to teaching.
● Performing other duties as assigned.

The instructional assignment may include day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend, and/or off campus classes.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, completed by August 23, 2018, AND two years of professional experience (to include technical and/or administrator certifications) directly related to the teaching assignment; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline area; OR, the equivalent.*

2. Hold and maintain a valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificate or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certificate, by August 23, 2018.

3. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
