We are a Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.General Description of Position:The Cook fulfills responsibilities of Brighton Schools Cook as forth in the job description. Demonstrates and implements Brighton Schools /NAEYC standards as well as adheres to Brighton Schools training and Employee HandbookResponsible for the ordering, budgeting, preparation, and serving of lunch and snacks per the regulations of the Health Department. Responsible for the cleanliness of kitchen, food storage and serving areas.Qualifications (in addition to General qualifications):Minimum:Serve Safe Certified- Must possess the certificate.Ability to manage and maintain commercial kitchen equipment..An independent self starter.Positive, flexible and professional in appearance and communication.Able to work with families of children who have food preferences and allergiesCoordinating and implementing the food service for our family events up to 200 peopleAbility to follow nutritional, health and service guidelines as stated in State of California, Title 22, Division 12, Food Service Regulations (Department of Agriculture), Health Department.Positive attitude, customer service focused and TEAMwork oriented with all people.Positive work history relative to punctuality, responsibility, and regular attendance.CPR and First Aid Qualified.Drug and Alcohol Free.A minimum of one year of experience working as a cook.Demonstrated experience menu planning and ordering accordingly.Exceptionally clean, organized and timely.Additional Preferred:AA/ BA or substantial background or training/ experience in nutrition.Previous experience in food budgeting.Teacher Qualified as established for fully qualified Teacher in the California Day Care Centers Teacher Qualifications and Duties, Title 22, ( 12 Core Early Childhood Education units passed with A or B grade)Child DevelopmentChild, Family & CommunityPrincipals and Practicum / Culture and DiversityFrom our Job Description:Personal Performance:1. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director.Kitchen/ Menu Management:1. Keep accurate files/ records as needed.2. Order all food and supplies.3. Maintain all receipts and invoices.4. Adhere to budget guidelines as set by Director.5. Empty the pantry once a month to deplete inventory, clean and reorganize.6. Generate creative menus with popular, nutritious, healthy and approved meals.7. Demonstrate effective time management skills- 6 hour kitchen duty.8. Demonstrate effective organizational skills.9. Create and implement menu, food service and shopping for all events before or after school.10. Implement and post approved menus.11. Prepare and present attractive set up for food on events.12. Organize kitchen supplies and materials for ease of accessibility and use.Cooking / Cleaning:1. Provides high quality food service as prescribed by Brighton Schools, (NAEYC, CCLC, OSHA, Health Department).2. Prepare, serve and clean up all snacks and lunches to include family style dining.3. Wash dishes and all utensils used in the preparation of foods.4. Clean counter tops, stove, and serving areas and spot clean all kitchen surfaces daily.5. Clean interior and exterior of refrigerator, freezer, cabinets, stove, and other kitchen appliances.6. Maintain an organized storage area and food inventories- per CCLD- all food organized by expiration date, oldest in the front for immediate use.7. Purchase food and supplies from approved list of vendors.8. Keep Director appraised of all appliances and equipment maintenance needs.9. Maintain a clean kitchen per sanitation schedule, Brighton cleaning checklist and SCOPE on a daily, weekly or as needed basis. Spot cleans all kitchen services daily with a disinfectant.10. Cleans the outside and lid of kitchen garbage can as needed.11. Responsible for maintaining all food service equipment to include Bar-B-Que, coolers and other specialized materials and equipment.12. Stores supplies, materials and equipment properly.13. Responsible for Field Trip lunches (packing upgraded lunches or condiments for adults).14. Provide age appropriate meals and serving portions per CCLD, Department of Agriculture- serving sizes and food group requirements.15. Prepare and serve Pancake Breakfasts.16. Purchase extra groceries, through price shopping, as needed.17. Responsible for the cleanliness, upkeep, organization of Janitorial Closet and all supplies; report needs to Director as needed.18. Maintains proper cooking and storage temperatures.19. Helps create standardized menu book for Brighton Schools Cookbook.For more information about our school.
