The Technical Lead will be responsible for leading the analytical and technical support for QC laboratory operations testing program within the Woodland, CA based seed health laboratory. This includes optimization of current assay platforms, implementation of new technologies, and advancing assay performance through monitoring appropriate metrics, streamlining data capture, and developing visualization dashboards. The position will also assist with completing proficiency and control testing and assures proper test methods are followed and results are accurate. This position contributes to effective and efficient validation and/or training of all lab personnel. The candidate will also be responsible for engaging team members through regular communication and team meetings, and working cross functionally, regionally and globally, with internal and external teams to enhance our efforts to rapidly advance, deploy, and monitor new technologies in quality control. Mentors or implements process improvements using Six Sigma and Lean concepts and supports continuous improvement. The individual will utilize internal and external collaborations to maintain Monsanto as the industry leader in QC testing.
**Job Requirements**
+ **Process**
+ Oversee, troubleshoot and refine existing analytical procedures employed in QC testing of raw materials and finished products.
+ Develop and maintenance of assay performance metrics and dashboards across platforms
+ Optimization and troubleshooting of assays and systems for quality, efficiency, and cost improvement
+ Implement, monitor and act on statistical process control data.
+ Manage (organize, execute and analyze) data related to internal and/or external global proficiency and validation tests. Ensure validation criteria are fulfilled prior to implementation of new methods.
+ Apply seed testing rules and methodology (AOSA and ISTA). Work internally and externally to understand the latest technology and testing requirements.
+ **Method Improvement**
+ Recognize, propose, prioritize and collaborate on projects to improve test methods, improve efficiency and reduce costs.
+ Report experimental results both internally and externally in formal reports, presentations, and posters.
+ Work closely with the Technology Advancement and Optimization team and Innovation Engineering group, and assist in initiating and managing internal and external research collaborations to create and validate new technologies.
+ **Training**
+ Train employees and data customers on data interpretation and serve as a resource to data customers on data utility.
+ Assist in developing and implementing training programs for lab personnel to ensure proficiency.
+ Transition/implementation of new tests into the production environment.
+ Works closely with lab personnel to monitor assay performance, identifying areas to improve analysis accuracy/precision while decreasing rework.
+ Influence others in a manner that achieves results and builds a culture of safety and quality.
+ **Accreditation, Compliance, and FTO**
+ Work with the Quality and Risk Management Lead towards successful lab certifications and accreditations (NSHS, NAL, ISTA, ISO9001).
+ Ensure Monsanto FTO through compliance with local, state, and federal regulations/requirements.
+ Be knowledgeable and adhere to all safety and risk management policies.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Master s degree + plus 2 years experience (or BA/BS with 6 years) in a technical area such as Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, or similar discipline.
+ Experience with molecular biology, qualitative and quantitative nucleic acid based and protein analyses and/or use of molecular data in quality control.
+ Technical ability and experience with project management. Ability to work with and often lead cross-functional teams.
+ Experience planning and executing experimental designs and data analysis; knowledge of statistical tools.
+ Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific journal articles, technical procedures, government regulations, and seed testing procedures.
+ Ability to define a problem, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Appropriate use of statistical analysis in problem solving and decision making.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Knowledge of or interest in process improvement tools like Six Sigma and LEAN.
+ Experience with Laboratory Automation is highly desirable.
+ Experience with the following computer programs is highly desirable: Microsoft Excel (Data Analysis, Macros, etc), Business Objects, Access (database design and use), LIMS (Labware preferred), SAP.
+ Seed production and seed regulatory experience is a plus. Knowledge of seed health quality testing including bacteriology, mycology, virology and molecular quality testing highly desirable.
