GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the organization's Accounting department including accounting and tax practices, corporate insurance, budget, policies and procedures, and relationships with regulatory bodies and external auditors. Responsible for compliance with GAAP and maintaining the overall accounting system that properly reflects the financial position of the Credit Union. Ensures that financial transactions, policies, and procedures meet the Credit Union's short- and long-term goals and objectives, regulatory body requirements, and sound business practices. Monitors major risk exposures and operational risk considerations, with the goal of reducing overall risk. PURPOSE STATEMENT: To identify and deliver accurate, useful and analytical reports, analyses, and recommendations to assist Senior Management in making informed decisions in support of our member service delivery channels and strategic goals. To preserve and enhance the ongoing financial strength and security of Golden 1 by influencing and achieving strong earnings and net capital while managing financial risk and accurately reporting the financial position, budget, and results of Golden 1. TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS: * Oversee Golden 1 accounting, financial reporting, analyses and reconciliations. Maintain a thorough knowledge of GAAP to ensure accuracy of Accounting processes, including accounting, tax (UBIT/FIN48), regulatory, mergers/acquisitions, and other related matters. Ensure internal controls for financial reporting and safeguarding of Credit Union assets. * Serves as a member of the Credit Union's management team and participates significantly in developing programs, objectives, and goals. * Serve on and contribute to the Asset/Liability Committee (ALCO) to monitor economic conditions, adjustments, and effects on the Credit Union's balance sheet. Responsible for reporting financial data, trends, and related information and making applicable pricing, fee, and product recommendations to ALCO in the absence of the SVP/CFO. * Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws appropriate to the position. * Foster a positive and engaging work environment for each team member by promoting skill development, coaching for improvement and growth, inspiring others through your words and actions, ensuring positive employee morale throughout Golden 1, and embracing our mission, vision and core values. * Attend Board and Supervisory Committee meetings, present financial results, and other executive matters in the absence of the CFO or as requested. * Involved in planning, organizing, and directing budgetary activities and compilation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts for the organization. Provides management with budget reporting to identify variances at the business owner level. * Oversee regulatory reporting. Ensures that all financial reports are prepared and submitted to management and regulators as required. * Communicate and interact with senior management on budgetary, accounting, audit, tax, and other financial matters. * Oversee the training, development, and evaluation of the Accounting staff. * Oversee cash and liquidity management and work with Investment Officer to account for the investment portfolio. * Oversee development and maintenance of the general ledger and accounting, financial reporting, budget, and organizational profitability accounting systems. * Support the Investment Officer in overseeing the periodic asset/liability management analyses, data compilation and reporting for compliance with regulation and policy. * Administer and support the Deferred Compensation Programs and Retirement Plans from an Accounting perspective in coordination with Human Resources. * Review operating policies, procedures, objectives, and goals for areas of responsibility to ensure adequate internal controls are in place and that they support Credit Union-wide policies and objectives. * Represent the Credit Union in contacts with vendors, peer credit union and financial institutions, business and trade associations, members, regulatory agencies, and external auditors on accounting, audit, tax, and regulatory matters. * Manage and oversee the annual renewal and periodic modification of all corporate property and risk insurance policies. Compile and present annual renewal (and bids as required). * Prepare and compile executive-level written Board information and action reports as requested by the CFO. * Conduct ad hoc projects and assignments as directed by the CFO. Participate on project teams as required including development of analyses as applicable to areas of oversight. PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TASKS: * Effective oral and written communication skills required to manage and evaluate staff, make presentations, prepare recommendations, perform analysis, and accomplish other managerial functions as needed. * Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate an on-line computer terminal and other standard office equipment, such as financial calculators, personal computer, facsimile machine and telephone. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTACTS & RELATIONSHIPS: * INTERNAL: All levels of staff * EXTERNAL: External auditors, regulatory and governmental agencies, financial institutions, trade organizations, and vendors. QUALIFICATIONS: * EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting or Finance. Certified Public Accountant or Master's Degree in Business Administration is required. * EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years of progressively responsible top management experience in auditing, accounting, or controller duties is required, preferably with a financial institution. * KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Accounting and financial management skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of credit union industry and practice, data processing, accounting principles and auditing standards, and business administration. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Prolonged sitting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required. * Corrected vision within the normal range. * Hearing within normal range. A device to enhance hearing is available (if necessary). * Occasional movements throughout the department daily to interact with staff, accomplish tasks, etc. * Minimal travel (1-5 times annually) locally, statewide, and throughout the United States required to develop and manage all aspects of Accounting and Finance and to attend conferences, seminars, and meetings. Overnight travel and evening schedules included.
